HITMEN AU - Rivamika

“Your mission is simple.” Pixis’ golden gaze pierced through space to stab into their eyes. “Protect the Queen.”

The duo exchanged a single gaze that carried the weight of an entire conversation. Their expressions were unsurprised, no doubt agreeing to Pixis’ explanation of their latest assignment. Of course, there was a glint of knowing shared, one that awaited the familiar undertone of a condition beneath the simple command.

“Anything else?” Levi spoke their shared question aloud.

“Yes,” Pixis nodded, tossing the file on the smooth reflective surface of the table. “Under no circumstances must you permit her to engage in any combat.”

This was an obvious yet, strange request. Judging by their gazes, Pixis could only guess how their minds considered every possible implication. It was almost amusing.

“Is she reckless?” Mikasa Ackerman was the one who spoke up this time.

“Not at all,” Pixis chuckled. “This isn’t for the sake of safety. Allow me to elaborate.” He shifted, pushing himself up to his feet, and pulled out a sleek remote from his coat pocket. The screen above them, featuring their charge’s fair face and flaxen hair, changed to a moving video.

The girl known as the Queen stood in the middle of a wide street, no doubt the plaza of some town. Yet, where there should have been livelihood, there was the death of it. Bodies were strewn in all manners, blood stains spreading and pushing through every crack in the concrete. The girl, looked completely unfazed by the carnage, face perfectly blank of all emotion as she looked up ahead of the camera. The faintest glow pulsed from her eyes, and the Ackerman duo gave a small start at the sight of something so familiar seen on a strange face.

“She’s a telekinetic, to put it rather simply,” Pixis explained. “While she has been trained in hand-to-hand combat, she’s rather average when not using the ability. However, the moment she activates her gift, what is left is an entire field of bodies and very few opponents to survive it.”

“She doesn’t seem the sort to need protection then,” Levi snorted.

“You misunderstand, Captain.” Pixis said, his eyes narrowing. “The protection isn’t entirely for her. It’s for anyone who is stupid enough to challenge her. That said, despite your abilities in strength and speed, it would be best for you to keep off the list of people she would have reason to kill. I do not believe you would survive.”

There was a moment of silence that followed. The duo’s eyes remained fixed on the video now playing on loop, studying the frail looking girl who remained perfectly still despite the men falling all around her.

“Very well,” Levi said shortly after Mikasa gave a nod. “We’ll make sure she stays under control.”

Pixis smiled, “That, my dear Captain, I would certainly love to see.”

Insomnia is a bitch, but at least I’m doing something. Off to get some shut eye. Hopefully.
