To say Levi’s day has been shit…would be an understatement. From morning when he spilled coffee on his white dress shirt, to mid-day when his lunch meeting cancelled on him, and all the way through to evening where he was stuck on the expressway for an extra hour and a half because there had been an accident. That’s why when he finally makes it to the front door of his apartment, the nagging itch at the back of his throat calls out for a cigarette - a bad habit that he’s been trying to curb for the past six months. 

He swings the door open and before it is even fully shut, his feet are already out of his shoes and he’s making his way towards the balcony. But upon glancing through the door, he sees that the pack of smokes are not on the table. Grumbling, Levi paces back into the living room and wonders whether he had misplaced them. 

“Levi?” Mikasa’s voice echoes from the direction of their bedroom. “Are you home?” 

“Yes, I’m here.” He responds distantly as his eyes continue to scan the room for the pack. “Have you seen my cigarettes?” 

Silence. 

“What’s wrong?” Mikasa frowns, sensing the tension in his voice.

Levi closes his eyes and massages his eyelids with his fingers. “I just need one. The day was tough.”

“They’re in here.”

Putting down her book, Mikasa hears the footsteps approaching their room until she sees him appear at the doorway complete with a brown stain on his button down. He gazes at her figure lying under the cozy, peach blanket with his eyes pausing on the noticeable hill that was her stomach. 

And suddenly, his heart begins to calm and he can’t hear the rushing of blood in his ears anymore. 

Levi walks over to their bed and lifts up the blanket before climbing in and settling down beside his wife. He pulls the covers back over them, relishing the warmth and the way the mattress sinks under his weight. Instinctively, he rests his hand on Mikasa’s bulging abdomen.

“Aren’t you afraid you’re making the bed dirty with those clothes?” She raises her eyebrows in surprise. 

“Shh. I couldn’t give a damn because this is all I want right now.”
